About me

Adam Gorlitsky

Founder of I GOT LEGS

In 2006, Adam Gorlitsky was involved in a catastrophic car accident, which left him paralyzed from the waist down with a spinal cord injury. His doctors believed he would never walk again. In August of 2015, after a decade of living with paralysis, Adam was given the opportunity to explore a breakthrough new technology – a ReWalk Robotic Exoskeleton, a groundbreaking device that would allow him to stand up and walk. This moment led Adam on a journey to become the first paralyzed man in history to walk Charleston, South Carolina’s Cooper River Bridge Run. One of the largest 10K events in the country with over 40,000 participants, the 6.2 mile race took nearly seven hours and 17, 932 grueling steps to complete. When Adam stood up in the exoskeleton he immediately knew that his life had radically changed again, but this time for the better. Adam felt empowered with true purpose for the first time since his accident. After 10 years Adam had reclaimed his physicality in a way that he never thought possible. Adam knew he had to find a way to share this amazing feeling with other individuals with disabilities. In 2016, Adam started I GOT LEGS, a registered not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to ReEnabling members of the disabled community by building active communities. We look to raise awareness, funds and create opportunities to help bridge the gap between the able-bodied and physically challenged.

“When I am in my robotic exoskeleton, I do not feel disabled, nor do I feel able-bodied; I feel ReEnabled.”
